Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Came here for lunch and ordered the attached dishes. The portions of food I got did not disappoint. There were more than enough noodles and the soup was very hearty. There was just enough beef to complement the dish. The vegetable spring rolls were okay, wouldn’t personally order again as they seemed to lack flavour. Wasn’t able to get through the chicken wings sadly. I ordered them spicy but the flavouring on the chicken was not particularly appealing but maybe I am not accustomed to the seasoning but it wasn’t spicy at all. Would love to come back to try one of the dry noodle dishes, you can definitely do without the sides."
"Love JWD hand pulled noodles! There is actually someone pulling noodles at the kitchen window. 1. Excellent price for central London location - around £13 a bowl. 2. Lots of seating. 3. Very good portion size. Personal favourite is the beef brisket. The thin noodles are excellent. Can be slow on service and sometimes a fight for a table. 10/10 would come again.. (I visit at least once a week.)"
"JWD is one of my favourite lanzhou noodle restaurants in London! I usually get the beef hand-pulled noodle soup — a classic, to be sure, but always a hit. The noodles are perfectly chewy (I prefer the thicker-cut types) and the broth is soo fragrant and rich. The beef slices are very tender and come in a rather generous serving. I do wish they had a bit more slices of radish though — always feels like a bit of an afterthought :) I like how they have the bowls set up to adjust to your own scallion/cilantro/chilli oil level. Price point is superb too (esp in this neighbourhood) — really worth it, especially for how filling the portion sizes are here. It’s largely self-serve (order at kiosk, pick up from counter) and pretty busy whenever I’ve been, so I’d recommend making sure you have somewhere to sit first before ordering."
"We finally got a chance to try the amazing JDW hand pulled noodles near Liverpool Street and the first thing to say is that as you can see from the photos the noodles really are hand pulled. We tried the beef rib soup noodle, the beef rib dry noodle and the grilled lamb skewers. The portions are huge but this not at the expense of the quality which is really good. The skewers while small were good but the mains were the stars as both tasted yummy and the soup was just one needed on a cold and wet November day. You probably won't be able to finish it all but what you can't eat you can pack and take away as we did. I must say I am not personally a fan of the automated ordering system but with food this good and at such a reasonable price I won't hold that against them. Definitely worth trying if you have not been before."
"One of the best bowls of noodles I’ve had in London. The hand-pulled noodles are perfectly springy, the broth is rich and comforting, and the beef is tender and flavorful. The beef roujiamo absolutely blew me away—crispy, flaky bun with juicy, fragrant meat that rivals what I’ve had in China. Great portions, fair prices, no service charge, and super convenient self-ordering. A true gem in the City and my new go-to spot for a comforting meal. Highly recommend!"
"Braised Short Rib Noodle: Visually impressive. It comes with a massive, brick-sized beef rib on the bone. The meat is surprisingly tender and falls off the bone easily. • Pickled Cabbage Beef Noodle: The broth is tangy and appetizing, perfect with the chewy hand-pulled noodles. Adding a Fried Egg to soak up the soup is recommended. • Lamb Burger (Roujiamo): Crispy bun with flavorful, finely chopped lamb filling. • Sweet Potato Balls: A nice chewy and sweet finish to the meal. A solid choice for a hearty lunch near Liverpool Street."
"Really really tasty! The broth was amazing (though I couldn't finish it all)! I tried the JWD Beef Pulled Noodle (or something like that), I don't regret. Fair price for what we get. The noodle was so chewy. Loved it. 100% recommend to anyone. Was a bit busy though so had to fight to get a seat ha."
"If you love noodles and broth this is a place you shouldn’t miss. They pull and make the noodles in front of you as you order and it is an experience in itself self. Nothing gets fresher than that. The dried option was also very flavourful and everyone enjoyed the food. It was a good choice. The price was very reasonable. There is no service as such as they call your order number and you pick up your food. So minimal interaction with anyone. A Must try!"
